Version 8.0.6 Released
SDK V8.0.6 is now available for purchase and evaluation. Version 8 is a very large upgrade, the major feature is introduction of the new High Throughput JPEG 2000 (HTJ2K) standard that offers a massive enhancement in processing throughput to the whole JPEG 2000 family of standards.
By way of example, the HTJ2K implementation in this version is capable of compressing 4K (3840 x 2160) 36 bit-per-pixel content to very high quality (2 bits-per-pixel) at 95 frames/s on a 4-core Intel i7-6700 processor and at 175 frames/s on an 8-core AMD 3700 processor, with precise non-iterative bit-rate control. Decompression throughputs for the same content, on the same platforms, are 156 frames/s and 263 frames/s, respectively, averaged over bursts of more than 4500 frames.
Version 8.0.5 Released
SpeedPack vS8.0.5 is now available for purchase and evaluation. This special release offers remarkable speed improvements, ranging from around 30% to 60%, on modern x86 processors, running on 64-bit operating systems, relative to regular Kakadu, which is already one of the fastest implementations around.
These speed improvements currently only apply to traditional JPEG 2000. For HTJ2K (High Throughput JPEG 2000) content, the Kakadu SpeedPack version 8.0.5 has the same high performance implementation as regular Kakadu version 8.0.5. In the future, however, Kakadu SpeedPack can be expected to offer even higher throughputs for HTJ2K content on platforms with AVX512 support.
